The Pop Song of December

U2 POP

Wow, time goes by so fast!. I still remember when I started the series of post named: “the pop song of the month”, as a way to remember the 10th anniversary of the POP album, and here we are at the last month of 2007, so it is time for the pop song of December: The Playboy Mansion

Why I picked up this song?, well because it is one of the songs that I love, and after many years I understood the lyrics in a different way; I feel that this song talks about what we would find after death, something like a paradise, the next excerpt is what I think refers to that:

Then will there be no time for sorrow
Then will there be no time for shame
Then will there be now time for shame
Then will there be now time for pain

Enjoy the song!

// The Playboy Mansion

If coke is a mystery
Michael Jackson, history
If beauty is truth
And surgery the fountain of youth…

What am I to do?
Have I got the gifts to get me through
The gates of that mansion?

If O.J. is more than a drink
And a Big Mac bigger than you think
And perfume is an obsession
And talk showsÖ confession

What have we got to lose?
Another push and we’ll be through
The gates of that mansion.

I never bought a lotto ticket
I never parked in anyone’s space.
The banks they’re like cathedrals
I guess casinos took their place.

Love, come on down
Don’t wake her she’ll come around.

Chance is a kind of religion
Where you’re damned for plain hard luck.
I never did see that movie
I never did read that book.
Love, come on down
Let my numbers come around.

Don’t know if I can hold on
Don’t know if I’m that strong.
Don’t know if I can wait that long
Till the colours come flashing
And the lights go on.

Then will there be no time for sorrow
Then will there be no time for shame
Though I can’t say why
I know I’ve got to believe.

We’ll go driving in that pool
It’s who you know that gets you through
The gates of the playboy mansion.

Then will there be no time for sorrow
Then will there be no time for shame
Then will there be now time for shame
Then will there be now time for pain

The Pop Song of November

This year is nearly over, so will be the celebration of the POP album, so here I’m posting, the POP song of November: If God Will Send His Angels. This song it is very special, it has a feeling of a love song. So here it is the video an the lyrics.

If God Will Send His Angels

Nobody else here baby
No-one else here to blame
No-one to point the finger
It’s just you and me and the rain.

Nobody made you do it
No one put words in your mouth.
Nobody here taking orders
When love took a train heading south.
It’s the blind leading the blond
It’s the stuff, it’s the stuff of country songs.

Hey, if God will send his angels
And if God will send a sign
And if God will send his angels
Would everything be alright?

God’s got his phone off the hook, babe
Would he even pick up if he could?
It’s been a while since we saw that child
Hangin’ round this neighbourhood.

See his mother dealing in a doorway
See Father Christmas with a begging bowl.
And Jesus’ sister’s eyes are a blister
The High Street never looked so low.

It’s the blind leading the blond
It’s the cops collecting for the cons.
So where is the hope and
Where is the faith and the love?
What’s that you say to me
Does love light up your Christmas tree?
The next minute you’re blowing a fuse
And the cartoon network turns into the news.

If God will send his angels
And if God will send a sign
Well if God will send his angels
Where do we go?
Where do we go?

Jesus never let me down
You know Jesus used to show me the score.
Then they put Jesus in show business
Now it’s hard to get in the door.

It’s the stuff, it’s the stuff of country songs
But I guess it was something to go on.
Hey, if God will send his angels
I sure could use them here right now
Well, if God will send his angels…

Where do we go?
Where do we go?

Holy Joe

We’re already in the 10th month of this year, and it is time for the pop song of the month, and this time it won’t be a track from *POP*, instead it’ll be the b-side from Discothèque: Holy Joe.

And here it is the video of U2 performing it at the K-Mart press conference in New York

Holy Joe

Version: Guilty Mix (5:08) First Appears On: Discothèque Single, 1997
Written By: U2 / Bono & The Edge Performed By: U2

I… I’m a humble guy
No really I try
You know it’s hard sometimes

True… and hard working too
Workin it to get to see you
Shimmer, shake the shampoo
(This is a D)

Come on, come on
Come on, come on, be good to me
Come on, come on
Come on, come on, I’ve been good to me
Here it comes
Here it comes
Holy Joe

Please… don’t make me say please
Champagne and ice cream, yeah
It’s not what I want it’s what I need

Precocious… just a little precocious
Expialidocious
Yeah, yeah, yeah

Devotion… and some appreciation
Little heavy rotation
Looks good on me

You know it’s not hard
I could think of a lot harder
Oh yeah

Just wanted our moment
To last a little longer
Oh yeah

Come on, come on
Come on, come on, be good to me
Come on, come on
Come on, come on, be good to me
Here it comes
Here it comes
Holy Joe

I’m totally messed up in everybody’s life
Closer than ever to everybody’s wife
Yeah… oh oh

Come on come on
Come on, come on, be good to me (oh child)
Come on, come on
Come on, come on, be good to me
Come on, come on
Come on, come on, be good to me
Come on, come on
Come on come on come on come on, be true
Here it comes
Here it comes
Holy Joe
